Fort Washington has stood as silent sentry defending the Nation's Capital, for over 180 years. As technologies advanced so did Fort Washington. Fort Washington is one of the few remaining Seacoast Forts in its original designs. This 341-acre national park on the Potomac River features scenic areas, a visitor's center, trails and picnic facilities.

The diverse history of Maryland and our national heritage can be experienced at Oxon Cove Park. Through hands on activities, living history programs, and more, you can experience farm life and how it's changed overtime. Explore how the park evolved from a plantation home during the War of 1812, to a hospital farm, to the park you can visit today. Take a step back into time when life seemed more simple. Explore Oxon Hill Farm, the main feature of Oxon Cove Park, and its outbuildings, join in on the typical farm day activities, learn about the dairy cow and other farm animals, or take a wagon ride through the natural areas of the park.

Bladensburg Waterfront Park, formerly known as Bladensburg Marina, is a park along the Anacostia River, nestled among the Port Towns of Bladensburg, Colmar Manor and Cottage City. The park features a public boat ramp, fishing pier, picnic pavilion, playground, a B & O Railroad caboose, community boathouse (storage facility) and historical displays. Canoe, kayak, and rowboat rentals are available on weekends from May 26 to October 31. Free pontoon boat tours allow visitors to explore this surprisingly scenic river with the guidance of a naturalist. Canoeing and kayaking lessons are offered, as well as many other interesting natural and historical programs. Special events include the annual Port Towns Day, Paddlesport Regatta, and river clean-ups. The hiker/biker bridge links this park directly to the Anacostia Tributary Trail System.

Located in southern Prince George's County, Cosca Regional Park is more than 690 acres in size. Some areas within the park have been developed for recreational use, but much of the park remains in its natural, undeveloped state. Clearwater Nature Center, a staffed facility which offers a variety of interpretive programs, exhibits, and special events, is located in the park. Cosca Regional Park also includes picnic areas and shelters, a picnic pavilion, a tram train, four lighted outdoor tennis courts, two unlighted outdoor tennis courts, a lake for boating and fishing, a boathouse, playgrounds, an equestrian trail network, a nature trail network, 25 campsites, comfort stations, two lighted softball fields, one unlighted softball field, two lighted baseball fields, and the Cosca Tennis Bubble, with four lighted tennis courts.

Fairland Regional Park includes more than 150 acres of parkland in Prince George's County. The park is developed with many different facilities to serve the varied recreational interests of county residents and visitors. Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex (including a gymnastics center, racquetball courts, a weight training center, the Fairland Tennis Bubble, outdoor tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, and a 50-meter indoor swimming pool), and The Gardens Ice House (a year-round, indoor skating facility). The park also includes four lighted softball fields.

Walker Mill Regional Park

Walker Mill Regional Park includes more than 470 acres of land, a portion of which has been developed for recreational uses. Facilities accessible from the entrance road off Walker Mill Road include the 100-space lighted parking area, a lighted baseball field, two lighted softball fields, a lighted soccer/football field, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, play equipment, a picnic area, an open shelter, a comfort station, and a trail. There is also an outdoor art sculpture on-site. The southwestern portion of the park, accessible from Berry Lane, includes a half basketball court, play equipment areas, an open shelter, a picnic area, and a pathway. Much of Walker Mill Regional Park remains undeveloped and provides open space and woodland for the community.

Covering more than 850 acres, Watkins Regional Park features the Chesapeake Carousel, Old Maryland Farm, miniature train, miniature golf course, lighted softball fields, practice softball field, lighted football/soccer field, outdoor basketball courts, lighted indoor tennis courts, Watkins Tennis Bubble, campsites, picnic areas with shelters, playgrounds, comfort stations, a paved, 1-7-mile circuitous hiker/biker trail, as well as miles of trail through deciduous forest.

Forest area features more than 15 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Cedarville Pond, located and the end of Cedar Forest Road, offers freshwater fishing. Of particular interest is the bog at the headwaters of Zekaih Swamp where several rare and endangered plant species can be found. Group and youth camping, bath house available Apr-Oct, primitive camping Nov-Mar. Open daily sunrise to sunset. The Cedarville Fish Hatchery Visitor Center (301-888-2107).

Rosaryville State Park

Rosaryville is a 982 acre day-use park and the location of the historic Mount Airy Mansion. Miles of trails for hiking, biking and equestrians are available for day use. To gain access to Rosaryville State Park, make a right turn into the entrance just south of Osborne Road while traveling south on U.S. 301. Two pavilions, each accommodating 200 guests, are available for rent. A bathroom is a short distance from the pavilion area. A $100 security deposit is required for all pavilion rentals.
