Emotional texture abounds in this ode to the idea of "bittersweet." With equal parts wild humor and grit, Saudade incorporates theatre and dance to intermingle stories of the history of African-Americans in the southern United States, contemporary and traditional Portuguese Fado music and the exquisite dynamics of an international cast of dancers. Saudade is a Portuguese word that conjures the complex mixture of sadness, pain, nostalgia, happiness and love that is at the core of Fado. ($)
